Meander & Meet – The Architecture of Community

Our studio @gpgarchitecture organised an informal professional development day called Meander & Meet the Architecture of Community at the Urana Aquatic and Leisure Centre. Guest Speakers included Carly from Akimbo Architecture, Gioia from GPG Architecture and Phillip from Regional Design Service whose team designed the Waterfront Pavilion at Urana Aquatic and Leisure Centre. We were treated to a delicious lunch prepared by Urana Takeaway & Newsagency. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with architects from the Riverina, learning about their creative processes and project management strategies.

We then became novice birdwatching enthusiasts through a guided tour of the surrounding bushland and Bird Avery with expert guidance from Rhonda and Darcy from Birdlife Australia. They gave us such an intriguing insight into how bird conservation and farming regeneration work together. Did you know it takes 70 years for a tree to go from a seedling to a habitable home for birds to live in? The day finished with a tour of “Butherwah” House, a pise constructed house (ancient construction technique with rammed earth and other raw materials like chalk, lime or gravel) designed by A. C Macknight led by Noel Thomson and the owners.
